------------------- Image 3.0 ------------------- ------------------- 1/10/91 ------------------- This is the newest installation of the Image program. We have added many new features to the program which we hope you will find useful. This is the official release of NCSA Image 3.0! THIS DISTRIBUTION Some general information: All files ending with the extension ".hqx" have been encoded by BinHex. All files with "sit" included in their name are archives that have been compressed by StuffIt. Once you have obtained your files, you will want to extract them. For files that have the ".hqx" extension, you will need to use BinHex 4.0 to extract them. Run BinHex 4.0 and use the File menu option "Upload -> Application". A dialog will appear asking you for the BinHex file you want un-BinHexed. Once the file has been selected another dialog will appear asking where and by what name you want to save it as. If the name of the file has an extension ending with ".sit", you will want to use UnStuffIt to extract the file. Read the StuffIt documentation for details on how to extract the files from an archive. Here are the items that you will find in the directory /usr6/ftp/NCSAImage/Mac/: 1) unstf.hqx - This is a file compression and archiving utility by Raymond Lau. If you wish to compress and archive files, we highly recommend StuffIt. Ordering information is included in the documentation if you would like to obtain a copy of StuffIt. This file has been BinHexed with version 4.0. 2) Image3.sit.hqx - This file contains the release of NCSA Image 3.0. You will need to use BinHex 4.0 to decode Image 3.0. You will then need to Unstuff it. Once unstuffed, it can be run. 3) Image3LCsi.sit.hqx - This file contains the release of NCSA Image 3.0 for the LC/si line of Macintoshes. You will need to use BinHex 4.0 to decode Image 3.0. You will then need to Unstuff it. Once unstuffed, it can be run. 4) Images.sit.hqx - This file contains some sample images to use with Image 3.0. There is also a text file that contains commands for executing distributed processing with viewit and u2 (NCSA's Cray 2). You will need to unbinhex and unstuff this file. 5) sourcesit.hqx - This file contains the source code in MPW C for NCSA Image 2.0 (not 3.0!). This will be of interest only to those who want to use the source code of Image 2.0. Note: Image 3.0 source code is not yet avaliable. You will need to unbinhex and unstuff this file. 6) designsit.hqx - This file explains the internal structure of Image 2.0's C code. This will be of interest only to those who want to use the source code of Image 2.0. Note: Image 3.0 source code is not yet avaliable. You will need to unbinhex and unstuff this file. 7) sitdocsit.hqx - In this StuffIt archive is the documentation for StuffIt in MSWord and MacWrite format. Included in the documents are how to get hold of StuffIt. These files were all archived using StuffIt and the resulting archive was then BinHexed. 8) Im3doc.sit.hqx - This file contains the documentation for NCSA Image 3.0 WARNING: It is huge (over 3.5 megs)! It is stored in MS Word 4.0 format. You will need to unbinhex and unstuff this file. 9) README - This file, which explains the distribution. Just read me! -------------------------------------------------------- Below is a short list of the NEW features we have added to Image. Make sure you try them! (1) HDF List window. (2) Distributed Computing. (3) Support for 3D datasets. -------------------------------------------------------- Bug Notes: (1) Copy will sometimes give fuzzy images when you paste them back into image (occurs when the row width of the copied section or image is odd). (2) The ruler and Protractor will not erase correctly with magnification sometimes. -------------------------------------------------------- Thomas Redman Project Leader redman@ncsa.uiuc.edu
