Object: Nonex-open cluster NGC 6724 Constell: AQL RA: 18h 57.0m Decl: +10° 22' Epoch: 2000 Mag: Size: Type: Observer: Jere Kahanpää Obs. place: Helsinki, Finland Date/Time: 19./20.9.1996, 22.55 Telescope: C 200/2000 Magn: 160x Filter: Field: 19' NE Lim.mag: 5.5m Background sky: 3 Seeing: 2 Weather: +5 °C, no Moon. Brightness: 5 Alt: 30° Description: Not confirmed. A quite rich field at 80x and 50x but not much denser than other nearby fields. At 160x a very small clump of stars is suspected between two mag. 11 ones. Only one star in the knot is easily visible with averted vision, others being very difficult. Nebulosity suspected. The original description don't help much. Orig. descr J. Herschel (1833): "A cluster found w. the 7-feet equatorial." I don't know B. Archinal and Al Schumann saw: in The 'Non- existent' star clusters of the RNGC the author (B.A.) calls this cluster "too easy" with a 15-cm reflector.
