Brightness: 3 Alt: 45° Description: A. Ling (1992) has identified NGC 6827 as the faint open cluster Berkeley 48. (I 1 m, 4', #stars 30, Br13-15m). Berk 48 was not seen but there is a much larger (about 25'x17') cluster/starcloud in the field SE of the catalogue positions. This cluster includes about 30 stars of magnitudes 12... Trumpler-type IV 2 p-m. The stars are in several sub-groups. This group is easily visible in Megastar as a high-density star cloud. The original description: "vF, E, dif, sev, st inv." sounds like Ling will draw the longer straw. This clearly describes a much fainter cluster than mine. Still - if NGC 6827 is Berk 48 then was was seen?
