Object: Gaseous nebula NGC 6857 Constell: CYG RA: 20h 01.8m Decl: +33° 32' Epoch: 2000 Mag: 11.4m (p) (NGC) Size: 38'' (NGC),4' (Sh)Type: 3 2 3 (Sh2-) Observer: Jere Kahanpää Obs. place: Helsinki, Finland Date/Time: 19./20.9.1996, 23.15 Telescope: C 200/2000 Magn: 160x Filter: O-III Field: 19' NE Lim.mag: 5.5m Background sky: 3 Seeing: 2 Weather: +6 °C, no Moon. Large areas of the sky covered with clouds. Brightness: 4, 5 w/o f. Alt: 55° Description: Very faint without a filter but easy if not bright with O-III. Surrounds a mag. 12 star. There is another slightly fainter star within it. Extends a bit more towards N to a diameter of 2'. Quite concentrated near the star = NGC 6857. The fainter nebulosity is the brightest region os Sh2-100. A few stars were added to the drawing w/o filters. This object is NOT a planetary nebula though many older catalogues list it as one.
