I am having a bit of trouble downloading the source for version 2 of the telnet stuff. I connected to ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu using anonymous ftp at around 8:30pm pdt on 11-10. I got to the PC directory and located the compressed source. Now, I was able to get "most" of pcniu2.tar.Z before the server closed the connection because of a time-out. The machine I was working from is fast and I had adequate storage. I wonder if the download was slow because of the symbolic links at your end (are you using a remote mount - that can slow things up and introduce other problems...) or something else. I've never had problems accessing the stuff from the old uxc.cso.uiuc.edu machine. We're pretty eager to get a hold of the source and other stuff. We're very impressed with what we have seen so far. Please let me know if there is anything I can do at this end to facilitate matters. Thanks, Austin Shelton, Workstation Support, UC Berkeley ------------------------------------------------ From: spar!kari@decwrl.dec.com Date: Wed Nov 11 13:07:03 1987 Are the telnet sources available yet? I purchased the version 2.0 disk from you but found no sources on it. I have not been able to connect to your computer for anonymous ftp but this is probably ARPANets fault. Bug report: We have not been able to make "ftp enabled: no" in the configuration file work. ftp is always enabled. Keep up the good work, -Kari -------------------------------------------------- From: Charlie C. Kim Date: Fri, 13 Nov 87 11:23:51 EST Subject: closing sessions... One of our staff members here accidently hit command-K instead of control-K a couple of times and ended up killing his sessions. He brings up the issue - should a "Close Session" be considered a "dangerous" command that should force a dialog box to come up. I have mixed feelings about this, but submit it as a possible modifications to be made. I agree with the basic comment about the flashing screen too. It gets really annoying when you're on a system that "beeps" at the end of page like TOPS-20. I think that making the screen flash only if it is a background screen is a good idea. An alternative might be to bring it to front for a second... Charlie C. If this information is available (even if it is only a socket number or remote host id) it would be useful in identifying unwanted intruders. Also it would be nice if the contents of the ftp log would scroll and if the user had control over how much information was saved.
