Term for the Macintosh Term version 4.5.1 May 25, 1989 Term is an asynchronous communications program for the Macintosh. It emulates a TVI950 terminal, and is specifically designed to work well with an IBM 7171 or equivalent 3270 protocol converter. It shares many features (and code) with tn3270, including support for file transfer using the same RMAC and WMAC commands. As a result, users find it easy to switch from tn3270 to Term when they must connect through a modem. Term has not been developed to the same extent as tn3270. However, it is the terminal program of choice for modem users at Brown, and we have found it to be reliable. Here are the steps for restoring the Term files: 1. Download term451.sithqx to the Macintosh. Any file transfer method which supports downloading a text file may be used. 2. On the Macintosh, use BinHex 4.0 or BinHex 5.0 to read term451.sithqx and recover the StuffIt archive file, "term 4.5.1.sit". Recent versions of StuffIt may also be used to do this by choosing the "Decode BinHex File..." item from the "Other" menu. 3. Double-click on "term 4.5.1.sit" to run StuffIt and open the archive file. Any of the distribution files may then be extracted. (To extract a file, click on the line describing the file, then on the "extract" button.) The above steps assume you have a copy of StuffIt. If that is not the case, StuffIt is available in BinHex format in the file stfit151.hqx, and in MacBinary format in the file stfit151.bin. The documentation for StuffIt is in the file stfdoc15.hqx.
