For information - not an official document Vienna, 23 February 1994 CSCE PRESS RELEASE THE CSCE COMMITTEE OF SENIOR OFFICIALS MEETS IN PRAGUE 1. The 25th Meeting of the Committee of Senior Officials is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, 2 March 1994 at 3 p.m. at the Czernin Palace in Prague. The meeting will extend through Friday, 4 March 1994. 2. The CSO is responsible for overview, management and co-ordination of the CSCE activities. It lays down political guidelines and takes key decisions between Council Meetings. The CSCE States are represented by Senior Officials (Directors) from capitals or Heads of CSCE Delegations in Vienna. 3. As follow-up to the CSCE-Council in Rome (December 1993) it is expected that the representatives of the participating States will discuss the situation in the CSCE region and assess the CSCE involvement. In this context the participants will review the recent activities of the Chairman-in-Office and of the CSCE officials and institutions: the Secretary General, the High Commissioner on National Minorities, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. They will also address operational issues, including specific proposals for extending the activities of the CSCE Mission in Georgia. Further development of capabilities of the CSCE in conflict prevention and crises management will be an overriding issue. Co-operation and contacts with the UN as well as with other organizations will be reviewed. The CSO will conduct a preliminary exchange of views on the preparations to the Budapest Review Conference scheduled to open on 10 October 1994. 4. Chairman of the CSO, Ambassador Paolo Bruni will be available to journalists for a short briefing prior to the opening of the meeting on 2 March at 2 p.m. at the Czernin Palace. A concluding press conference is scheduled for 4 March at 11 a.m. equally at the Czernin Palace. Other briefings will be scheduled as necessary.
