From: kfh@login.dknet.dk (Ken Friis Hansen) Subject: Air F/X camber in sail. Date: Sat, 6 Apr 1996 08:18:17 -1000 Organization: DKnet / EUnet Denmark - Login Tjenesten Message-ID: This week-end gave me the first chance to fly the Grey Fade Air F/X that I bought in Chicago last month. First I just want to join the Air F/X Fan Club. I am an average flyer (at best). I used to think that my (home-build) Tracer, and later my (also home-build) Tramontana made me look good. But the Air F/X really makes me look like I know what I am doing. The Air F/X is precise, tracking is good, it is light on the controls, and just seems to be waiting for your next command. This kite will certainly teach me a lot this summer (as all good kites does). Somebody should grab the chance and import this kite to Europe, I think a lot of flyers would love it (if not the price). Disclamer: I have no financial interest in Aerie Kiteworks, and dont know anybody there. I just like this kite, as many other r.k'ers apparently do. In the best of european traditions I am now thinking about building my own kite combining some of the qualities from my favorite kites, Tracer and Air F/X. This bring out my question to you all. It is clear from looking at the Air F/X that there is some camber (broad-seaming, 3D-effect or what you prefer) in the sail. It also seems clear that the camber is in the wing-panels going from the sail battern near the wingtip to the *main* sail. But how much camber would you estimate is there, and where is it? >From looking at the kite, I would guess that there is something like 1cm of camber on either side of the mittle wing panel, and that the max. camber location is fairly close to the end where the wing panel meet the *main* sail. But what do you think? Another disclamer: I do not mean to build a copy of the Air F/X, neither for commercial nor private purposes. I mean to build my own design, but to learn >From kites that I have flown and that I like. ********************************************************************* * Ken Friis Hansen * kfh@login.dknet.dk (home) * * Rugmarken 73 * Dansk Drage Klub, Randers Drage Klub * * DK-8520 Lystrup * !! please note new work adress !! * * Denmark * Ken.Friis.Hansen@dti.dk (work) * * +45 86 22 59 11 * Danish Technological Institute * * +45 40 78 59 11 GSM * DTI Energy, Engine Technique * ********************************************************************* = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
