They are looking for people to come, fly kites and generally be part of the show. This the same company that put on the Great St. Louis Kite Fest in '94. If you are interested in helping out with your kites or anything else please contact Shelley Kunitz at (314) 426-0808 in St. Louis or you can email me. The exciting thing (IHMO) about this situation is that this is *not* a kite industry related company/person putting on the event. This is a business that thinks kiting can be a good avenue to promoting their product. If they are successfull it could foster more corporate involvement in kiting. Corporate involvement means money; money means more advertising which means more people, etc. For these reasons, I feel that we have a vested interest in helping their event be the best it can be. [...now how'd that soap box get under my feet?:) ] The dates are: Phoenix May 20 Tampa June 10 Cleveland June 17 [from their literature...] Each event will be a fun, family-oriented day sponsored by the Washington Apple Commission, a major local grocery store chain, and a variety of other national sponsors (ie. Jugglers, face painters, strolling clowns and entertainment Walk-around characters local band live radio remote Apple Bobbing contest Pie eating contest Concession area Corporate VIP tents The event will be open to the public, free of charge. Kite and concession proceeds will benefit a local charity. Various sponsors will assist the Washington Apple Commission and the local retailer in underwriting the event.
