The best thing is a chain-link fence. Just let the wind stick the kite to the fence, lay out the lines, pull on the handles, and you're off. When I can't be bothered to erect a fence on my flying field, I just use one stick, which holds the centre of the kite upright, with the rest flapping round it. Pulling the lines pulls the two halves round, and it'll fly off even before you it is straightened out. However I don't usually even do this, because 1) I can't be bothered and 2) Leaving sticks stuck in the ground, with pointed ends at about kiddy- eye-level, is rather antisocial (particularly black, carbon ones), so usually, I just lay out the kite on the ground. It may move in the wind and it may roll over, but about 50% of the time you can tug it, pull it and launch it. Note that the kite tends to respond well to violent behavior, when trying to sort out folds and wraps in the sky - don't be timid - yank it into shape. Andrew PS: I shan't mention that it helps to launch it with the vent upwards :-) -- Andrew Beattie PO Box 109, Basingstoke, RG24 0YB, UK. Email:andrew@tug.com Phone:+44-256-464912
