Subject: n-1-4-900.10 Internet Standards by Jon Postel +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Where and how to get STDs ========================= The IAB Internet Standards are documented in a small subset of the RFCs. Once you know the RFC number of the document describing an STD you may obtain that document by getting the RFC (see ways_to_get_rfcs). For convenience these documents are also grouped and listed by their STD numbers. The STDs may be obtained via EMAIL or FTP from STD Repositories. 1. VENERA.ISI.EDU STDs are available via anonymous FTP from VENERA.ISI.EDU, with the pathname: in-notes/std/stdNN.txt (where "NN" is the number of the STD. For example STD2.TXT is the current Assigned Numbers document. Login with FTP username "anonymous" and password "ftp". STDs can also be obtained via electronic mail from VENERA.ISI.EDU by using the RFC-INFO service. Address the request to "rfc-info@isi.edu" with a message body of: Retrieve: STD Doc-ID: STDnnnn (Where "nnnn" refers to the number of the STD (always use 4 digits). The RFC-INFO@ISI.EDU server provides other ways of selecting STDs based on date ranges and such; for more information send a message to "rfc-info@isi.edu" with the message body "help: help". Note that STDs may be very large (greater than 100,000 charactes), the RFC-INFO service will return the report in sections of less than 50,000 characters each. contact: RFC-Manager@ISI.EDU ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Changes to this file "std-retrieval.txt" should be sent to RFC-Manager@ISI.EDU. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ IAB Standards Index =================== STD Protocol Name Status RFC === ======== ===================================== ====== ==== 1 -------- IAB Official Protocol Standards Req 1360 2 -------- Assigned Numbers Req 1340 3 -------- Host Requirements - Communications Req 1122 3 -------- Host Requirements - Applications Req 1123 4 -------- Gateway Requirements Req 1009 5 IP Internet Protocol Req 791 as amended by: 5 -------- IP Subnet Extension Req 950 5 -------- IP Broadcast Datagrams Req 919 5 -------- IP Broadcast Datagrams with Subnets Req 922 5 ICMP Internet Control Message Protocol Req 792 5 IGMP Internet Group Multicast Protocol Rec 1112 6 UDP User Datagram Protocol Rec 768 7 TCP Transmission Control Protocol Rec 793 8 TELNET Telnet Protocol Rec 854,855 9 FTP File Transfer Protocol Rec 959 10 SMTP Simple Mail Transfer Protocol Rec 821 11 MAIL Format of Electronic Mail Messages Rec 822 11 CONTENT Content Type Header Field Rec 1049 12 NTP Network Time Protocol Rec 1119 13 DOMAIN Domain Name System Rec 1034,1035 14 DNS-MX Mail Routing and the Domain System Rec 974 15 SNMP Simple Network Management Protocol Rec 1157 16 SMI Structure of Management Information Rec 1155 17 MIB-II Management Information Base-II Rec 1213 18 EGP Exterior Gateway Protocol Rec 904 19 NETBIOS NetBIOS Service Protocols Ele 1001,1002 20 ECHO Echo Protocol Rec 862 21 DISCARD Discard Protocol Ele 863 22 CHARGEN Character Generator Protocol Ele 864 23 QUOTE Quote of the Day Protocol Ele 865 24 USERS Active Users Protocol Ele 866 25 DAYTIME Daytime Protocol Ele 867 26 TIME Time Server Protocol Ele 868 27 TOPT-BIN Binary Transmission (0) Rec 856 28 TOPT-ECHO Echo (1) Rec 857 29 TOPT-SUPP Suppress Go Ahead (3) Rec 858 30 TOPT-STAT Status (5) Rec 859 31 TOPT-TIM Timing Mark (6) Rec 860 32 TOPT-EXTOP Extended-Options-List (255) Rec 861 33 TFTP Trivial File Transfer Protocol Ele 1350 34 RIP Routing Information Protocol Ele 1058 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
