This file taken from Amancio's X11R5 S3 Server 0.0 for 386bsd 0.1 The S3 server is based upon Kevin Martin's IBM 8514/a server. This S3 server has not been integrated with XFree86, yet. I have another that is, but as yet contains no S3 specific code. This release does not include fonts nor clients, it is expected that you have installed Xfree86 or X386. Your Xfree86 or X386 clients will work the S3 server. THIS SERVER WILL NOT WORK WITH NON S3 BASED SVGA CARDS. Also, your S3-based card should have 1 MB of memory. Maximum resolution available with the S3 server is 1024x768 this is because we are using the rest of the memory for pixmap and font cache. The cache is totally transparent to the application. This release has the font cache disable because I have not been able to get it to work so far. The result is that the text scrolling is slow with the cache enable exposing a window is almost too fast for the eye to see. I am not including sources with this release but will make my work available to those who which so. The server is in a very early stage and expect it to be vastly improved in less than a month. There will be interim releases till then. The S3 server has been tested with the following resolutions: 640x480 800x600 1024x768 My modeDB entries for the Orchid's Farenheit 1280: "640x480" 0 640 672 768 800 480 490 492 525 "800x600" 3 800 824 896 1024 600 601 603 625 "1024x768i" 5 1024 1064 1224 1264 768 776 785 817 Interlace The S3 server has been tested on Orchid's Farenheit 1280 and Actix's GraphicsEngine. The following timing information was obtained from Actix's Director of Marketing. Actix's clock synthetizer is Chrontel CH9204 version c Actix's timing code: For some of the codes there are two frequencies, I just don't know which one is the right frequency. If for your board you can determine that the second frequency is the correct one for the given hex code, then use the second choice for the rest of the frequencies. I need an FTP site where I can ftp the S3 server because my internet service, netcom, does not provide such service. Enjoy, Amancio Hasty Enjoy with linux, Jon Tombs
