Installation of the SpeedStar 24X Accelerated OS/2 2.1 Drivers
--------------------------------------------------------------
These instructions assume you are installing from the IBM VGA driver.
If you are not, please reinstall the VGA driver now. Please refer to the
OS/2 "Using the Operating System" manual, page 336, section "Preparing to
Switch to a Different Display Adapter" for more information on reinstalling
the VGA driver.

NOTE: The driver disk requires the following volume label to be present:
       WDC31 INST

1. Boot DOS and run 24XMODE. Using 24XMODE, configure your monitor for use
with the SpeedStar 24X. If you have any questions about 24XMODE, please
consult the manual for your SpeedStar 24X card. DO NOT RUN THE MODE SETTING
UTILITY FROM A DOS SESSION UNDER OS/2!

2. Boot OS/2. Open an OS/2 full-screen command prompt.

3. Place the installation diskette in a floppy drive, drive A for example.

4. Switch to that floppy drive (by entering "A:" if in drive A, etc.)

5. Enter "wdsetup x" where x is the drive where OS/2 is located.

6. When prompted, choose "Primary Display" and then choose "OK".

7. A list of drivers will appear. Choose "Western Digital Accelerated (WDC31
   only)", then choose "OK".

8. A list with the options "Install Using Defaults for Monitor" and "Install
Using Display Adapter Utility Program" will appear. Choose "Install Using
Display Adapter Utility Program", then choose OK.

9. A window will appear prompting you for the location of the Display Adapter
   Utility Program. Choose "Locate".

10. A standard OS/2 file open window will appear. The file you are looking
for is 24XMODE.COM. It is normally located in C:\. Once you have the
    file located, choose "OK".

11. You should now see the path to 24XMODE.COM. It should look like this:

	C:\24XMODE.COM

After the word COM, insert a space, followed by the word MONITOR so that
    it looks like the following:

	C:\24XMODE.COM MONITOR

    Click on OK.

12. Select a resolution for the driver. For reference, a list of available
    resolutions is given below.

		    Available Resolutions
		    ---------------------

	 Resolution Minimum Graphics Card Memory
	------------ ----------------------------
	1024x768x256 1.0 Megabytes
	 800x600x256 1.0
	 640x480x256 0.5

13. A window will appear listing the assumed source directory. It should be
"A:" if the installation diskette is in drive A, "B:" for drive B, etc.
    Click on Install.

14. If told that "Target file is later than the Source file, replace anyway"
    and answer "No".

15. After the installation has completed, close the OS/2 full-screen window by
    entering the command "exit".

16. Shut down OS/2. Note that during shutdown OS/2 displays a small window
with the message "Please wait, shutdown in progress". When it has
completed it will display another window with the message "Shutdown has
completed...". Sometimes, however, it places this completion window
behind the first window so that the "Please wait..." message is still
showing. When the second window appears it is safe to reboot even if
you cannot read the completion message.

17. Restart your system.

Known Limitations
-----------------
You cannot run a Windows program in a desktop window. This is commonly
referred to as "seamless Windows". These drivers do not support seamless
Windows. To run a Windows program, open a Win-OS/2 full-screen session
then run the Windows program in the usual way.

If you click on a program icon in a Win-OS/2 Group folder or in a Windows
Program folder, it will not run. This is beause OS/2 tries to run the Windows
program in a desktop window, and this feature has been disabled with these
drivers. As mentioned above, you can run Windows applications in a Win-OS/2
full-screen session.
