# This file is used to specify gateways which this systems knows

# The format of entries is:
#
# net|host <name> gateway <gwname> metric <value> passive|active|external
#
# The passive|active|external flag must be present but is only really
# relevant if routed is running. If routed is not running then all gateways
# are effectively passive since there is nothing to update the routing
# tables dynamically. The meaning of the flag is:
#
# Passive gateways are maintained in the routing tables indefinitely and
# are advertised to other systems. Examples of passive gateways might be
# permanent SLIP links or CISCO routers.
#
# Active gateways are treated equally with network interfaces. Routing
# information is distributed to the gateway. If no routing is received
# from the gateway for a period of time the associated route is deleted.
#
# External gateways are also passive but are not placed in the kernel
# routing tables nor are they advertised to other systems. They are used
# to inform routed that another routing process will install such a route
# and that alternate routes to the destination should not be installed.
